of native cellulose after
chemical modification. It is one
of the most important water-
soluble polymers. CMC is white or
milk white fibrous powder or
granule, odorless, flavorless. It
is insoluble in acid, ethanol,
aether, acetone, soluble in
water. Its aqueous solution is a
kind of semitransparent colloid
thick liquid.
Sodium carboxyl-methyl cellulose
is an anionic water-soluble
polymer of cellulose derivative.
It can be used as adhesive,
emulsifier, starching agent and
stabilizing agent. It is used in
large quantities as detergent
additive, oil drilling fluid
additive, textile treating agent,
paper sizing agent, paint
additive, ceramic additive,
adhesive etc.
